Hello! Right now I have a 16GB RAM setup (two 8GB modules) on my Asus Z390a board with an Intel i7 8700K running at stock settings. The goal was to boost to 32GB by swapping to a 32GB kit (two 16GB sticks). You're wondering if combining these two in a way that totals 48GB would work—would the whole system operate in single-channel or split between dual and single channels? According to the specifications, they match in clock speeds, so it should be possible.

Yes, everything works as long as the speed rating matches, you should be fine. It will function in dual channels. The optimal choice is from the same brand and speed. If not, it can still operate at the lowest speed, so pairing a 3200 with a 2400 will keep everything running at 2400.

You're considering using both kits together, possibly on a dual-channel setup. It's worth checking if they can work in quad-channel with compatible hardware. I'm not expecting it to be possible right now, but I'll keep an eye on the delivery and update you soon.

Yes, they'll both operate in dual channel mode. Consumer PCs don't support quad channel; it's available only on workstations (TR/Xeon). Memory pairs function together regardless of the number of slots, ensuring all devices run in dual channel pairs.

The combined kits performed well, operating smoothly in dual channel with XMP at 3000Mhz. All systems appear stable thus far.
