Combining managed and unmanaged switches with a Synology NAS for link aggregation
Hi everyone, I’m considering adding another 10Gb network card to my Synology DS1819+ which already has a 10Gb port. I need a managed switch to link both cards together. Right now I have an 8-port unmanaged switch. I’m looking into the Ubiquiti ES-16-XG Edge, a managed switch but with only 4 ports. Would it be okay to aggregate the NAS using the Ubiquiti device and then connect it to the unmanaged switch?
Is there a connection between the two switches at 20Gbps? Otherwise, you didn't do anything.
It's possible the connection isn't working as expected. Even with a 10Gb network card, there could be issues like incorrect configuration, driver problems, or network settings that prevent proper functionality. Check the switch setup and ensure all components are properly connected.
No. The only cases where having 20Gbps to the NAS would make sense is if you also had 20Gbps to what accesses it, or multiple machines needing to access it simultaneously for a total >10Gbps but obviously that would require some of them to be connected directly to the ubiquiti switch.
