Hey there, new here! I’m just getting started and hoping for some tips. A few years back I got a kit with two 8GB DDR4 sticks at 2400 MHz from G SKILL (the one with the Trident Z RGB series). It worked perfectly for years without any problems. Recently, my brother’s PC stopped working and he sent his RAM to Corsair for repair. In the meantime, he’s been using one of my 8GB sticks. Now I’m thinking about buying another 2x8GB kit if he keeps his, so we could reach 24GB total. The only affordable G SKILL set I found in the UK right now is this link: it’s a 3200 MHz model with timings like CL16-18-18-38. It runs on an i5 8600K, a 1080 Ti, and a Gigabyte gaming 3GB RAM. Any advice would be super helpful!

You have the option: the common stable frequency will be chosen—probably around 2400mhz across all sticks with significant cas latency. You'll also miss dual channel speeds on the individual 8gb units that aren't paired in a channel. Expect slower performance in dual channel (because of higher cas latency) and even more so when using the final 8gb. (Slowing down is relative here...not SLOW but noticeably so.) My suggestion, as a gamer, is to use 16gb of the fastest stable memory you can afford. The only times I've reached or surpassed 16gb (with other programs running in the background) are during heavily modded games. At that point, if you absolutely need more RAM, I'd recommend going all out (though I sometimes mix 3600mhz CL 16 with 2133mhz CL14 for this reason too—because the benefits of 32gb @ 2666mhz CL19 when playing heavily modded games are worth it).

I believe it's possible. Since I haven't confirmed that exact setup, combining RAM often functions well. Adjusting speeds or timing usually lets the system operate at its maximum capability, as both types can handle higher specs. Right now I'm testing a few random modules and everything works smoothly.
