Hi there! I hope everything is okay with you. My setup includes two HyperX DDR4 16GB modules at 3200MHz, but one stopped working unexpectedly—no idea why. I also have a backup Corsair stick with 4GB at 2666MHz. I’m considering swapping the failed one for the backup if it helps me reach about 16GB total. The catch is that HyperX RAM is no longer available, so upgrading would mean buying two sticks, which isn’t feasible right now. I’m stuck between using just one stick at a reduced speed or combining it with the backup. I know it’s a trade-off, but could using both still improve performance enough? Your thoughts would be really helpful. Thanks a lot! P.S. Both RAM modules have identical voltages.

Ram won't really perform well in dual channel setups because the sizes don't match, do you require 20GB of memory? Almost all games (about 99%) need no more than 16GB of RAM. If the RAM is slower than supported speeds, it will slow everything down to its maximum capability, and a 16GB stick won't work properly in dual-channel with a 4GB module. Unless you have a specific reason for the extra 4GB, I recommend sticking with 16GB.

It makes sense now about dual-channel operation—thanks! One more point: my CPU caps RAM speed at 2933MHz even without overclocking, so adding another stick would only lower it by about 267MHz (from 2933MHz to 2666MHz). There’s an option to push the CPU overclock to run RAM at 3200MHz, but after a failed stick today I’m hesitant to change it. Should I keep my 16GB drive?

You're still puzzled about the need for more than 16GB of RAM. After upgrading to 16GB, you didn't notice any extra requirements. The drop in performance from 3000 to 2666Mhz might impact games because you're downclocking from the optimal 3000Mhz range. Adding 4GB could potentially help, though it might cause instability or none at all—depends on your setup. It's a risk you can take for testing, but it seems like a waste of time unless it actually improves performance.
