I have a Gigabyte Vision D z590 with two Thunderbolt 4 ports. They feature their vision link TB ports. I'm using integrated graphics atm since graphics card prices remain high. I'm curious if these VisionLink TB4 outputs video without a dedicated graphics display port input—though the DP is present, so I'm not sure. It would be great to have just one Thunderbolt cable connecting to a dock that provides HDMI and USB ports for external drives. I reached out to Gigabyte support, but I doubt they'll respond soon.

When using integrated graphics, the board includes a DP port, allowing video transmission to the TB4 via that connection. DP works regardless of whether it comes from the Mobo or GPU.

Consider using the HDMI out to connect to the DisplayPort, then redirect it to the Thunderbolt port.

Sure, I'd be happy to describe the setup in detail so you can visualize it. Let me know if you need any adjustments!

The setup involves using the MOBO as a gigabyte vision D Z590. With an I9 10900k that has integrated graphics, I aim to keep things tidy and reduce cable clutter by connecting the MOBO’s native HDMI directly to the DP on the dock. Then I’d pull a TB cable from the dock to feed my monitor with video and connect my three external drives via USB 3.0. I plan to mount the dock and SSDs behind the monitor. In theory it could work, but I’m still unsure.

It makes sense in theory. The HDMI out to DP connection will still be treated as a display port for the TB4 output. Your options will depend on the HDMI specifications available on the board.
