You can definitely add more memory of a different size. Your current setup has two 8GB sticks, and you can upgrade to other sizes if needed.

Sure, you can add a 2x4GB stick. Keep in mind that many motherboards might struggle to keep high RAM speeds when there are more power limits.

Two 8GB units perform better than a single 16GB drive. Motherboards favor dual-channel setup, which isn’t possible with an uneven number of RAM modules (like one or three sticks).

Traditionally, this approach hasn't been advised because of compatibility concerns. Consider testing memtest overnight to assess performance together. Greater differences between components increase the chance of issues. Regarding XMP settings, your motherboard will choose the slower device profile to prevent crashes. You still have the option to adjust it manually.
