Combine SSD and HDD for optimal performance
Combine SSD and HDD for optimal performance
I stored a backup and created a system image. I intend to install Windows 10 on my SSD and then apply the system image. I’m unsure how saved apps and files will behave—will they be replaced completely, leaving only one version, or will both drives hold them without issues? Should I erase the SSD after loading the image? The disk cloning tools I tried always require a paid license, so I won’t recommend them unless you have a free alternative that offers real cloning. Regarding your media creation tool on USB, I just need to confirm whether it will cause conflicts once the system image is installed.
I usually rely on Macrium Reflect, which is free and offers a recovery USB feature. Sometimes the cloned drive wouldn’t start, but the USB resolved the issue completely.
The issue stemmed from not subscribing to the newsletter. The video showed no need to delete HDD files when they worked, so I should remove unnecessary items from my SSD to free space, keep most apps on the HDD, and enable TRIM. Research on AOMEI Backupper indicated that free disk cloning is limited to MBR→MBR or GPT→GPT formats; since my drive uses MBR and the SSD uses GPT, it won’t work. Changing to a fresh Windows installation with a system image might help.
AOMEI Partition Assistant isn't included in Windows. Did you overlook something?

I attempted to clone the drive but received an error because the SSD is connected via SATA to USB. I tried using the WIN to USB software it recommended, which suggested a Pro version. It seems I might need to install the SSD internally and use Hasleo Disk Clone, though I doubt it’s free. Updated September 25, 2023 by WackySpace
I previously relied on Macrium for reliable performance until a disk failure occurred. Uncertain whether the backup was lost or simply time passed, it had been useful for several years. I suggest considering Clonezilla instead and opting for a disk-to-disk clone. The available partition partitioning and image creation features don’t make sense, and I wouldn’t rely on them to function properly. When attempting image creation, the system restricts selection to partitions rather than disks, indicating missing functionality or unusual behavior.
