I'm mainly searching for a CPU that stands the test of time, though I'm a bit doubtful about 12 cores—most games likely won't use them all. The 9 3900X is currently on a big discount, while the 3700X seems too expensive given the deal.

Consider upgrading your motherboard to the MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/jcYQzy/...mahawk-max For the best performance, opt for the Asus X570 Prime. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/McfFf7/...ime-x570-p The 3900X remains solid for gaming, especially if it's available on sale.

The ASUS Prime 570-P has a cooler positioned beneath the GPU. This setup might affect airflow, so ensure proper ventilation for optimal performance.

It should work fine; Asus wouldn't design a motherboard that doesn't fit big GPUs, at least I hope not 😄. A solid alternative for a bit more is: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/whMTwP/...-x570-plus

The 7,3700X might not be a lasting choice since AMD is rapidly phasing out their current CPUs in favor of the upcoming 4000 series.

3900x and 3700x perform similarly in gaming, offering little advantage unless you juggle multiple tasks. If that’s an issue, every X570 model shares the same chipset fan beneath the graphics card.

If there are no thermal concerns and it works, I believe it shouldn't affect fairness. Having the exact details of the motherboard would help more. I'm not sure what counts as multitasking, but I currently have 15 tabs in Chrome, PC running Uplay, Spotify, Steam, ShareX and Task Manager. I also listen to music from YouTube almost all the time.
