Combine CPU/server gaming PC for optimal performance.
I own an AMD Ryzen 7 1800X processor, 64GB RAM at 3200MHz, a 1TB SSD, a 12TB hard drive, and an RTX 2070 Super GPU. I run servers for friends in various games, sometimes multiple at once. At peak usage, I use 40-50GB of RAM but the CPU struggles under intense in-game demands. I’m considering switching to an AMD Threadripper because servers can leverage its cores, though I play modded Stellaris which mainly uses one core. During those sessions with friends, on standard star configurations my CPU stays around 30% utilization, but the game lags and a single core hits its limit. I also can’t overclock this CPU beyond 1.0GHz, so I keep it as-is. I’m curious about acquiring Threadripper cores while still maintaining high single-core performance, or whether a Threadripper setup would suit my needs.
Usually dual CPUs are kept for server boards. It's unclear if EPIC supports running on multiple CPUs, but it seems possible. Xeon models can handle multiple CPUs too. The safest choice is a dual system setup.
