Hi there, long time reader and first time poster here. Quick disclaimer english is not my native language, sorry for any mistakes. My plan was to build a quite pc for gaming, My brother gave me a 9900k and I bought the rest. I wanted to go with Ryzen but with a free 9900k that was not an option, it is an amazing CPU! But I've been having some issues with it. I get a coil whine near the socket area that follows this behavior. 1. It stops when the CPU is in full load, like prime 95 and the voltage is fixed at 1.3v 2. It stops when completely in IDLE and the voltage at 0.720v 3. It stops if I disable C-states in the bios When I am downloading something, or doing any other type of task the noise starts, it seems to be due to voltage changes, probably why disabling C-states helps, since the voltages stays higher most of the time. So what are the risks of running the PC without C-states? Since my goal was a silent build, how can I undervolt the CPU? I've seen lots of different ways to do it and but I don't feel confident after reading some redditors killing their CPU due to some weird XMP profile combination with undervolting.From my understanding to perform the undervolting I should set the voltage to adaptive and add a negative offset with LLC in turbo, but I am not sure. I think 1.3v for stock CPU is too much and I still have room to improve. Here are the voltages:
It's not the processor, it's the motherboard. Operating without c-states is acceptable, though it will slightly raise average power consumption.
Your method for handling undervoltage seems sound. Consider adjusting additional parameters if needed.
