Hello there! Could you share the make and model of your laptop? Knowing that would be very useful. Also, have you checked for any upcoming BIOS updates? And are you currently covered by a warranty or its expiration date?

the lenovo ideapad l340 is five years old and i've had to replace the battery, it's been making this noise for a while now. i thought it was coil whine, which happens when opening games and graphics-heavy apps.

I can verify that it's coil whine. The issue appears specifically on menus or at very high frame rates.
