I understand others think purchasing it now makes sense for multiplayer. The player base is shrinking and prices tend to stay high. COD games usually cost a lot, so investing in it could be worthwhile if you plan to spend time grinding together. I'm enjoying it a lot—already logged 35 hours, which is impressive for just one game.
I understand now. The cost isn't expected to fall much, but fewer players will remain as time passes (except for the Christmas spike).
