I’m seeing error code A9 on your motherboard and I’m not sure what it means. You’ve already tried resetting the CMOS and flashing the BIOS, but it hasn’t helped. Your system includes an Asus Maximus X Hero with an 8086k CPU, Dark Rock Pro 4 cooler, HX1000i power supply, 2x16GB TridentZ RAM, and a Thor V2 case. You haven’t installed the operating system yet. Since you can view the BIOS, you might want to check for any pending updates or manufacturer alerts. If the issue persists, consider consulting the official documentation for your motherboard model or reaching out to Asus support for guidance.

Yes, there is an error code present, but your system is also functioning correctly.

Yes, it’s understandable. You might want to skip the error code right now. The fans are active, the motherboard is showing activity, and you see your RAM and SSD listed—though the HDD isn’t connected yet. The “A9” code isn’t something to ignore; it’s worth investigating further before proceeding.

Several zip codes remain unchanged while the system functions normally.

Hello, adding to this discussion, on Maximus Hero viii the bios would revert to the default settings. The clock and notes remain functional, but it doesn’t appear as if the battery is charging properly—rather it seems like something went wrong. In my experience, after replacing a battery with 3.0v settings, the readings stabilize at 0.66v and everything works correctly without any code errors or missing devices.

Hey, what battery are you referring to? I'm having the same problem with the MAXIMUS X code, but I can't solve it. Also, how did you respond two years ago when I first saw this page?

It's a CR2032 battery, placed near the GPU slot on the motherboard. Second question, not sure. I've been trying to fix it for about two days and thought about the battery type—lithium usually lasts around 2 to 3 years. My motherboard is 3.5 years old... xD

The A9 code signifies the beginning of setup. It's mainly informational and appears in the BIOS. The motherboard manual provides a list of post codes for your guidance.
