I updated my PC to an AM4 model and am running Crosshair Vi Hero at 1700x with a Corsair Hydro 100i as the cooling solution. The crosshair turns on, shows Q code 8, but it doesn’t boot. I’ve installed the latest BIOS, yet nothing changed.

I performed the action and the system reported "system agent initialization after microcode loading." Searching online revealed most suggestions were to update the BIOS.

It seems you've likely locked your system. Confirm if it's an ASUS board—then you'll need CrashFree BIOS 3 to restore it. Find the instructions for recovery.

Confirming the error is code 8, not 08. If you experienced the same issue, consider returning your motherboard via RMA. The code relates to the CPU. See my troubleshooting guide for more details.

It's simply 8, not 08.

Consider trying a CMOS reset. That’s a possible solution, though I’m not very skilled with these things.

You could be dealing with a faulty motherboard, similar to my experience. Consider trying various steps such as resetting CMOS or updating the BIOS to the newest version before proceeding with the return. Do you have access to another Ryzen-supported motherboard?
