World at War 2, Black Ops 3, Modern Warfare 4, Ghosts 2 are popular titles. If sales keep rising, they’ll likely keep producing games. Major shifts won’t happen until numbers demand it. I usually expect the opposite—developers can freely craft games based on their imagination, like Star Citizen. They have endless options. Looking back feels restrictive; past projects often rely on copying existing ideas rather than exploring new concepts.
As long as players continue purchasing it, it will last forever. A replacement for COD might come eventually, but right now Counter Strike and Battlefield are the only options. COD is a massive franchise, so if sales decline, developers and companies will take steps to keep it going.
