I was just checking out the video Linus made about the Nvidia GRID streaming service versus Steam for home gaming. It sparked some thoughts. Have others tried beta versions of these cloud gaming platforms? What did your experience be? Also, it would be great if Linus received review units to compare the two services! I installed a graphics card in my computer just to play games, not for online streaming. It can also help speed up encoding and editing tasks, so using it for gaming instead of a streaming service makes more sense. Additionally, if your internet connection is unreliable or slow, this is the issue I noticed with gaming streaming services.
I understand your perspective. As a learner, this would be really helpful. Having my main computer nearby isn't necessary and being able to play games on a budget laptop with solid battery life would be a big plus. I wouldn't mind replacing a cheap machine if it breaks, compared to spending more on an expensive gaming rig. On the flip side, relying on the internet everywhere is a drawback, though campus Wi-Fi is secure. With the encoding details, they claim it works well even with integrated graphics. Latency might be an issue, but the performance seems adequate based on the J2C video.
