The process functions by copying data in segments, so if your 500GB drive (used or unused) has more than the 480GB SSD capacity, it will trigger a "not enough space" warning and prevent cloning. That’s why I recommend placing Windows on the SSD. After setting up on the desktop, go to your old user folder on the 500GB HDD, drag the files there, then format the HDD and move the files back. You can change the folder locations as needed; the SSD will store only what you want on the desktop, while the HDD handles the rest by default.

You're welcome on the topic. Finding a Windows 8 ISO can be tricky since it's no longer officially supported. It's generally safe if you use your product key, but locating a legitimate source might require checking specialized forums or community sites that focus on older Windows versions.

Your C: drive has a 440GB capacity. If the formatted space on the 480GB SSD exceeds that, you can safely clone only the C partition without issues.

For the Window's 8 ISO you can obtain it legally using your product key at the provided link. After installation, visit the store and install the Windows 8.1 update. Regarding cloning, you might want to try Clonezilla; consider shrinking partition sizes beforehand and proceed. For relocating user folders, find them in C:\Users\*username\ and move them to your 500GB HDD after formatting.

Also considering Clonezilla given my research, though I might opt for a fresh setup instead.

It's truly the most effective method. For a detailed walkthrough, check out the guide at http://www.overclock.net/t/1240779/seans...-ssds-hdds. It covers setting up your new OS optimally. You can also adjust where your user folders are placed—just move them to the HDD folder, then relocate the folders and restore files accordingly.

The instructions suggest using Windows to complete the upgrade. Since your SSD is empty, ensure the correct drive is selected during installation.

Choose the "install by creating a disk" choice.

It seems the feature you're looking for isn't available yet. You've already downloaded the executable and are encountering a request for a product key. It looks like you might have overlooked obtaining it.
