In short, I planned to take out my card for maintenance but applied too much pressure and it broke. I’m unsure how to proceed now.

It can be placed back in its position, sliding from the bottom as you observe. Just locate the spot:

Just to confirm, you're checking if it's acceptable without the clip. It's not a mandatory suggestion, but some people or scenarios might choose to remove them intentionally. Everything should function properly without them. If you're not frequently handling or moving your computer, that's fine too.

If you locate the clip somewhere in your setup, you can reinsert it from the bottom. It shouldn’t be crucial to run your GPU without that clip, provided the PCI bracket is correctly installed. I own server motherboards with only PCIe slots and no clips, and GPUs worked fine in those ports.
