Client on the Moon faces RAM usage problems. (Need assistance)
About a week ago I assembled a new computer and added the lunar client software. Once I started the game and played for a short time, it suddenly stopped and the display turned into a random black/blue pixelated image. After pausing for a while, the window shut down along with other programs that needed a lot of memory, like Discord and Steam. "Perhaps this was just an isolated incident," I thought. But unfortunately, it crashed again after roughly 20 minutes of gameplay. I decided to look into the issue further. I observed several clues: it seemed to be related to RAM usage, especially when closing or opening a graphical interface—it only occurred with lunar client and not with default Minecraft or other apps. I ran some tests. Test one showed the problem was due to high RAM consumption while playing, which would trigger the crash once usage reached 100%. Test two pointed to the GUI itself; I noticed that every time I opened or closed a window, RAM usage increased by about 70MB. I could recreate the crash by rapidly opening and closing GUI windows for around 30 seconds. Test three confirmed it was specific to lunar client, as I repeated the same check on standard Minecraft. All this raises the question: why is this happening? Is there a reason behind it?
GPUs typically contain significant video memory, often around 8 gigabytes, to store large chunks of data during gaming or demanding tasks. The CPU, on the other hand, relies on RAM rather than VRAM, which can lead to issues when gaming because games need RAM for smooth performance. With only 16 gigabytes of RAM available, running resource-heavy games may cause crashes due to insufficient resources. You might need additional RAM or a more powerful GPU to handle the workload effectively.
I see now it’s a mod for Minecraft, moded Minecraft can suck up vram a LOT.
Lunar client is a version of Minecraft that focuses on performance improvements and optimizations. It runs with minimal VRAM and GPU requirements, which makes it efficient for high FPS. While it doesn’t heavily use Vram or GPU resources, it still maintains functionality.
iGPUs usually have a RAM limit of around 2 GB for VRAM. With 16 GB of RAM, that leaves you with approximately 14 GB available. However, you should verify the maximum allowed in your system's BIOS settings. Regarding GUI, it refers to the visual interface—whether you mean opening or closing specific programs like Minecraft. Please specify which GUI you're referring to for a clearer explanation.
I discovered the exact cause—it was a rare issue stemming from motion blur combined with GUI Blur. For reference, I mean any game tile entity, such as chests, menus, hoppers, etc., including the options menu. If anyone else encounters this problem later, please disable motion blur and/or menu blur. Thanks!
