I looked on eBay and found a Xeon E5620 for a very low price. Would upgrading your old 2-core Pentium G2030 be worthwhile?

This component isn't compatible with boards that have the G2030 support; their connectors differ.

He’s correct, verify the socket—it’s certainly worth upgrading if you locate an affordable motherboard.

It would be better to upgrade from the Pentium if possible. Otherwise, consider options such as a Xeon e3-1225.

It costs 20 USD and it doesn’t perform as well as the e5620, so I’m planning to purchase a different motherboard instead.

The e5620 functions only with premium motherboards. Its low cost comes from its limited compatibility. If you're planning an upgrade, consider switching to Ryzen and DDR4 or stick with your existing board. An E3 1240 offers better performance than older models like Pentium and is more affordable than purchasing a new board.

1. Old Xeons still perform well in 2020?
2. Is the new Core worth the investment?
3. Which one should I pick if I have a LGA 1156 MOBO?
4. Can I view old Xeon benchmark scores?
5. Key things to know before buying an old Xeon?
6. What GPU pairs well with it?
7. Do old Xeons still receive driver updates?
8. Should I use it with an Intel stock cooler?
9. How long does it typically last?
10. Are old Xeons compatible with the H55 chipset?

The LGA 1156 xeons aren't performing well right now. They have a quad-core processor with an H-tail CPU, which is sufficient for simple tasks, but it won't handle gaming or demanding applications very well.

X58 Xeon models support overclocking, along with certain X79 and socket 771 variants. Overclocked X58 Xeon units perform comparably to Ryzen CPUs from the early generation.
