I needed to search but only noted that I could locate this quickly. It seems the black wire is GND/voltage, while the S-GND wire is thicker and clearly marked. The two cables are joined internally, forming a single S-GND wire. The S-GND connection to the header pin isn’t required. Source: https://www.frontx.com/cpx108_2.html

If the site is accurate, then no need. I also understand USB2 refers to just two power and two signal wires—four in all. That’s how it works.
