I operate for an MSP and have a mostly unused ewaste collection. I took the Cisco Meraki MS225-48-HW from the pile to test it. After plugging it in at home, the LED light is white, indicating it can connect to the Meraki cloud and all Ethernet ports function properly. I'm attempting to reach a dashboard but am unsure how. I have a console cable that works on other switches, so when connected to its management port there are no lights and I can't use PuTTY. I tried accessing its web client via IP 192.168.8.106, but it didn’t respond. I ran a port scan with nmap and found only one open port at 52, which is closed. I’m currently stuck on how to access this device. I also haven’t checked if it’s still in factory mode.

I believed Meraki gear had no settings options outside of a cloud connection.

This device lacks any local connection options and cannot be adjusted after linking to the cloud. Beforehand, you could only manage basic settings such as static IP, gateway, and DNS if required for cloud access. Without a license, Meraki equipment becomes electronic waste.

I set up an account on Meraki’s site and discovered it was unclaimed, so I claimed it successfully and started using it. A great opportunity!

Review the license details on the Meraki dashboard to understand the remaining validity period.

The 30-day window after filing is the grace period.
