I adjusted my heatsink from a H80i to a ZALMAN CNPS12X and noticed my computer is running slower—tabs open more slowly and the CPU usage spikes in Task Manager. The heatsink works fine, but I only applied a pea-sized amount of thermal paste on the CPU. For an i7 3820, should I cover the entire chip with paste?
If positioned accurately in the center and the heat sink is properly fastened, it will distribute heat more effectively than spreading it beforehand.
