I was considering RAM issues, ended up with a corrupted Intel Core i7 14700K processor. Hello! A few weeks ago I began putting together my new PC components: MOBO, CPU, GPU and RAM. Now I’m experiencing game crashes, big zip files unzipping fails, and frequent errors in Chrome “status_access_violation,” which I believe relates to RAM problems. Here’s the parts list: https://it.pcpartpicker.com/list/syrrpK
CPU: Intel Core i7 14700K MOBO: MSI PRO H610M-E DDR4 (MS-7D48) → documentation RAM: Kingston FURY Beast 64GB (2x32) GPU: GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 XT GAMING OC 16G (GV-R76XTGAMING OC-16GD)
First, I updated the motherboard BIOS to the latest version (with Microcode 0x12B), as PCPartPicker had warnings. After that, the hardware and Windows installation proceeded smoothly. I’ve swapped out the RAM from Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB to Kingston FURY Beast 64GB. Memtest86 and OCCT both passed successfully. I’ve experimented with XMP 3200 up to manual OC without any improvement. I’m aware the weak point might be in my motherboard, but according to the manufacturer’s specs it should be fine. Do I really have a RAM issue? What should I do next? Thanks ahead!
The CPU was purchased used, possibly from a less reliable source or even repackaged as new if circumstances are unfavorable. It might already be worn out. Not unpacking compressed files could indicate a damaged processor. You haven’t specified your usual usage, have you looked over the components?
I purchased from Amazon through a third-party seller. The packaging wasn't perfect, but I'm unsure if it was used. I'm using OCCT with these settings and it worked fine. Any additional steps to confirm data integrity? I have one SSD and two older disk drives. They're still functional in my previous setup. How can I test them?
Are you referring to the package not being completely sealed properly or having unnecessary tape? That would be concerning. Start by reviewing the SMART table. You can install CrystalDiskInfo to gather more details. If you need assistance interpreting the SMART data, feel free to share screenshots from this thread.
You just tested it and everything looks fine. The dump is attached here: https://pastebin.com/DiSVhkfG. I've also included the OCCT result as requested.
The seal looked fine at first, but there were indications. The small panels on the cardboard panel that opens weren’t fully intact. It might mean poor packaging or the box was opened. Here it is, I think it’s okay? Nothing is below the threshold. Spoiler HDD2 Spoiler HDD3 Spoiler
The drives seem fine at first glance. For the CPU, be sure to check it with another unit if possible. If you don’t have a spare, ask someone to lend their PC. Run the CPU in your machine and test the suspect one on theirs. Intel doesn’t offer specific tools for detecting issues like Raptor Lake performance drops. Symptoms differ widely based on how much degradation has occurred. A faulty CPU may fail the standard Intel diagnostic. Another frequent issue is problems starting Unreal 5 games that need shader compilation at launch—often causing freezes, crashes, or BSODs. Do you have a game like Black Myth Wukong with a free benchmark tool on Steam that checks shader compilation?
I'll check with others, but I think I’m unlikely to have any friends who use a CPU matching this socket (most have AMD, while I rely on Intel for both work and gaming). The Unreal5 test suggestion looks promising! I’ll try the Wukong test and explore other titles as well. If you know any other games to try, let me know—it’s something my friends can definitely help with.
EDIT: I ran the Wukong benchmark, and it compiled the shaders without issues at first. I repeated the process three times, then started the benchmark itself. It crashed initially, but it worked on the second and third attempts. From what I understand, this suggests it’s not degradation. I wasn’t aware of all this intel Raptor Lake hype, and now I’m really concerned.
