Choosing X570 or B450 for the 3700x configuration
Choosing X570 or B450 for the 3700x configuration
You're weighing options for your next build. The AM4 platform is ending with the new 4000 series, so sticking with that might limit future upgrades. A B450 board like the Tomahawk offers solid performance and flexibility, while a 4th-gen Ryzen could be a good path if you want more power. A 3950x might be worth considering if prices drop, but it depends on your needs. Think about whether workflow and gaming balance suits your priorities.
the main advantage of x570 is its pcie gen 4 compatibility. currently, it doesn't support gpus and most users don't see much benefit from the drives. the only concern i noticed with the b450 is possibly limited 4th generation ryanzen support since it launched with 2nd generation, though this hasn't been officially confirmed
I understand. There isn't an upgrade route... unless it specifically backs 4th generation Ryzen.
I’d pick the b450 since you don’t have to upgrade each generation. By around 2-3 generations, the am4 connector will change, making a reinforced VRMU unnecessary unless you plan annual upgrades.
