Choosing components for a school assignment.
Choosing components for a school assignment.
This project involves extensive requirements for enterprise-grade equipment. For long-term durability, consider CAT 6 and possibly CAT 7 cabling. Switches and routers should support high traffic and redundancy needs. Wireless access points are essential for guests and staff, with group management capabilities. Servers must handle DHCP, authentication, storage, and secure file sharing. The security office will need robust hardware like keypads and cameras. Given the space constraints and budget limitations, prioritize scalable solutions and reliable vendors.
A budget exists always. Similar to parameters such as user counts, distances, and sq ft coverage, it’s necessary to have a clear structure. Would you prefer I highlight the top options for each category instead?
Yeah, there is no real budget. We are being hired to install state of the art hardware while not going absolutly insane.
No budget constraints, but all other factors remain. It's unclear whether you require one switch or thousands, and cabling length is also uncertain. For a school project, you should handle the work yourself rather than relying on others.
Determine the number of APs required to cover each floor area. Calculate the necessary multiple drops per employee. Estimate the server count needed. Opt for Cat6a only—avoid Cat7. Use fiber or DAC cabling for speeds over 10Gb/s. Keep Ethernet within 100 meters.
My thought was 2Gb/s connection that is hardwired to the IT office then broken out from there. As it is a singe building, if the IT office is in the back of the building, If I have a breadboard or large switch in the IT office. I can just send a large cable (or fiber) down the whole building and splitting it off as needed.
