8.1 works much better on tablets. Windows versions below 7 were difficult to use with touchscreens. I worked at a fast food restaurant that ran Windows machines with touch interfaces—definitely not enjoyable. Especially older versions like Windows 98, ME, or XP. I’d think Windows 7 in a touch environment would be equally poor. It seems you made a smart decision. Perhaps Windows 10 will improve its update process in the future.

I’d schedule the upgrade once Windows 10 is fully stable and issues are resolved. Let’s just say Vista is the worst option.

Windows ME was the poorest option. A friend told me his machine would simply lose track of its graphics card or any other hardware. He’d have to wait until it realized it existed. ME remains the title for the most disappointing Windows release ever.

I didn't aim to imply your opinions but highlighted a broader idea from your text. Treating outdated systems as foolish is similar to judging someone by wearing orange—this isn't meaningful, since many devices stay functional longer without updates while others fail because of them. Concerning Skylake CPUs, Microsoft changed its plan about ending support for Skylake on Windows 7 and 8 after feedback. Now they say newer CPUs need Windows 10, though "not supported" doesn’t mean newer chips won’t work on older OS versions. You might still install drivers manually to get them to run on Windows 7 or 8. Similar points apply across Windows 7, 8, and 10.
