Hello everyone! Today I’m facing a bit of a dilemma. I just got a new PC and am unsure which operating system to pick. I’m currently using Windows 7, but the budget is tight and I’m worried about shipping costs and customs. Switching to Windows 8 seems tricky too—some say it’s overkill, it’s pricey, and it might not be worth it. Windows 10 is another option, but it’s still experimental and can cause issues. Changing to something else feels risky due to compatibility problems and a less smooth experience. I’m concerned about crashes or data loss that could damage my files or system. I don’t mind small annoyances like color changes in the taskbar, but serious problems like file corruption are concerning. I’m also wondering if there’s a way to get Windows 8 at a lower price, maybe through student discounts or other deals? This is really confusing—I feel stuck between outdated software and new options that come with risks.

Choosing a developer preview as the main operating system is risky. It's prone to instability and may damage your data. I recommend going with Windows 8, though you can opt for a cracked version of Windows 7 if needed. Windows 10 is expected soon, so trust your judgment. Linux and Ubuntu are always good alternatives.

For gaming, a PC is essential. If you already own Windows 7, switch away from Windows 8 immediately—don’t let yourself get caught up in piracy until you can afford a proper license.

With Windows 10 launching later in 2015, I believe purchasing Windows 8 could be a smart move. Upgrading later might be easier, and some sources suggest it could even be free. What are your thoughts on this?

I’m still running Windows 7 on all my computers and haven’t discovered any programs that won’t work there. I plan to stick with Windows 7 until the official launch of Windows 10 arrives.

However, the OS might still have many issues, so I’m planning to use Windows 8.1 for now and check out Windows 10 in about a year.

Windows 7 remains a reliable operating system with strong performance and minimal major problems. Avoid using Windows 10 as your main OS—it can cause complications. Consider applying for a student discount on Windows 8.
