Intel marketing team, here’s the rundown: aim for a R5 2600(X) build paired with something like an ASRock B450 Pro4. Be aware you’ll probably need to replace your RAM, as most systems still use DDR3 while newer CPUs only support DDR4.

You might find it wiser to remain on your current platform. You already own a Z97 board, so consider purchasing a used i7 4770K or i7 4790K from Ebay. Your decision is up to you.

It would be cheaper to purchase a used 4790k, offering comparable performance. You'd also need to replace the existing RAM, as z97 was the last model supporting DDR3, and you'd have to switch to DDR4 with the 9400f.

If you need to switch to DDR4, it's best to go with AMD. This is the more affordable option right now, and performance remains similar.
