It was mainly a public relations tactic. They halved the prices, but that clearly damaged their profit margins and made it unsustainable.

The nearest Intel option with better availability would be the 10980U or 10980P, as they are more commonly stocked and supported.

You're allowed to OC, though many entries focus on unusual cooling methods that aren't practical for real projects. Would you like to explore a more niche approach while keeping the best chip for regular tasks? Alternatively, you could enjoy experimenting with less common characters and still using top-tier hardware.

9980XE and 7980XE offer very similar results. The 3950X remains superior to all other Intel models.

I managed to save enough for it and chose an i9 7980xe under $1,000. It includes an Evga X299 dark with 32GB of 3466MHz RAM. Compared to my current i5 4670K, this should bring a noticeable boost.
