You should consider only monitors that support DisplayPort, as HDMI is not compatible with Linux.

It's not about HDMI not working in Linux, but rather the HDMI Forum not permitting an open source version. This means certain HDMI 2.1 capabilities, such as VRR via HDMI, may not function on Linux. I believe they might reach a compromise eventually, as it seems like an unreasonable limitation. Display Port could be a better alternative if you want to bypass these issues. I don't have enough information about your budget, desired resolution, and GPU to offer specific advice.
