I possess most of the components needed for a PC—case, motherboard, power supply, RAM, and SSD. Initially, I planned to run a Ryzen 5 3400G without a graphics card until I could afford a better one. However, I have an older GTX 680 and considered pairing it with a Ryzen 5 2600 for comparable performance or cost. Which setup suits you better? This machine is intended for my father, who enjoys gaming but isn’t concerned about graphics quality or speed, as long as it functions.

It relies on whether he requires 12 or 8 threads. I think the results will be comparable thanks to the upgrades in the third-gen Ryzen.

He focuses mainly on office tasks and gaming. While extra cores aren’t a big boost for most games right now, a 3400G might still be worth considering.

Whoa, the 3200G looks just fine with the same setup, while the 2600 seems better prepared for what's ahead. I’d pick the discrete GPU if you verify it’s running smoothly.

I'll choose the 2600 because they share the same architecture and it offers better caching performance.

It's also a 3400G. Additionally, the third generation Ryzen offers better single-core performance, which is what I've heard.

Ignore this point. A 12nm finfet isn't accurate; it might lead buyers to choose the incorrect product.

Yes, both 3400g and 2600x are Zen+ and would be around 12nm, offering comparable single-core performance.
