Privacy concerns in software aren't new; they've always been a topic of discussion. It's unlikely to be a major issue now, and there are ways to protect your system from unwanted access.

it reveals more than just cortana. even when you disable the options, they continue monitoring and collecting your information. they've also introduced the same telemetry updates for Windows 7 and 8. the main change is that with 7 or 8 you can prevent the update. I haven't refreshed my system in more than a month just to stay safe. I understand this exposes me to security risks, but for critical tasks I stick to Linux.

Microsoft's growing presence is notable because many others are following suit, creating a widespread impact in the industry.

The distinction lies in the fact that it operates at the operating system level rather than being limited to a website or app.

Windows 8.1 might be more affordable—consider upgrading to Windows 10 at no cost. For protecting your data against Microsoft’s tracking, follow these steps: https://imgur.com/gallery/m08HHLj

I understand that focus is on Apple and Google's privacy policies, which apply to products widely used beyond traditional desktops. I’ll keep this discussion general now. It appears mobile users are also affected by these privacy concerns, yet the expanding mobile market continues to grow while desktop Windows 10 users remain more engaged. I’m curious about the reasons behind this trend.

It isn't possible to simply switch it off—it won't stop working. You may adjust the options, but data transmission continues even if you change the settings.
