Many customers face issues where their system breaks after a Windows 10 major update. You can still perform a fresh installation of Windows 10 and enable it using keys from Windows 7, 8, or 8.1. That’s quite useful!

Yeah, taking the free upgrade offer worked with my Windows 7 key. But if the key wasn’t used during that offer, you can’t apply it for Windows 10. That’s exactly what the offer was for—helping people switch keys to get a Windows 10 license.
