I'm facing a tricky situation here. Right now I'm using an unofficial version of Windows 7. It's an ISO file that claims to be valid but has a questionable verification process. I encountered a problem with the sfc /scannow command—it resolved the issue but removed my validation tool, locking me out of the Windows installation folder. I had to restore from a backup image I made last Friday. On the positive side, everything worked smoothly there, but it highlighted how risky running pirated software can be, especially when deadlines are involved. For my work, I need a stable system, so I'm leaning toward switching to a legitimate OS. I'm considering Windows 8.1 now; it seems manageable. However, I rely on two video editing suites—NewBlueFX and Magic Bullet Looks—and I'm unsure if they'll work with Windows 8.1. I've been checking the latest updates, and it looks like Windows 10 is coming soon. Should I wait for a free upgrade or go ahead? Also, I'm using an M5a97 R2.0 motherboard and a Kingston HyperX 3K SSD, which should support Windows 8 well. Do you have any advice on finding a compatible version or a recommended backup source?

Windows 10 works well for me, but if your machine is essential for your work on Windows 8.1, you might find it easier to switch to a more affordable or even free version of Windows 10.

Running an authentic copy of Windows 7 would be best, but if you need immediate use, opt for Windows 8.1 instead.

Also, you're referring to the complete launch of Windows 10, not the current preview version.

I was checking that. Looking at the feedback, it seems they obtained keys via DreamSpark and resold them. Microsoft notices this, and many users are warned they have fake keys, making theirs useless. That’s why I prefer avoiding g2a.

Just keep going to 7 until 10 appears, then observe what happens.

I dont really see the problem here.... Windows 10 is not out yet, just get the version you want that is the cheapest. There is no wrong or right choice. Windows 8.1 and 7 are not very different and 95% of the programs that run on 7 will run on 8.1
