Choosing a budget PSU is a major mistake when setting up a gaming rig. You're almost guaranteed trouble with that low-cost EVGA model. Opt for a better alternative: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W

Edge isn't something most users prioritize. Still, Windows 10 outperforms Windows 8.1 in every aspect. While Windows 7 isn't ideal, since it's still receiving extended support, upgrading to the latest OS is probably the best choice.

Use a standard 390 GPU. The performance gap between 390 and 390x remains minimal at 1080p.

I appreciate my reliable Windows 7, yet Windows 10 functions perfectly!

Windows 10 is the best choice! Here’s a tailored build plan for a future-ready Skylake setup. I’ll help customize a non-K CPU with AsRock boards using BCLK support. RAM will be DDR4 faster. I’ve compiled a parts list and price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-6600 3.3GHz Quad-Core (£155 at Amazon UK), Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM (£24.98 from Novatech), ASRock Z170 Pro4S ATX motherboard (£84.99 from Ebuyer), Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB DDR4-2400 (£38.04 from Aria PC), Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB SSD (£35.99 from Amazon UK), Sapphire Radeon R9 390X 8GB (£323.94 from Aria PC), NZXT S340 black case (£58.15), SeaSonic EVO 750W PSU (£86.94), and BenQ GL2460HM monitor (£116.99). All costs sum to approximately £925.02, with shipping and taxes included. Created by PCPartPicker on 25 Dec 2015 16:10 GMT+0000.

Switch to an R9 390 model and replace the questionable power supply in your setup. It won't reliably handle an R9 390X or an overclocked i5-4690K. Aim for at least 550W from a solid power source, but the one linked is far too weak at 500W. The recommended 650W EVGA G2 from Pandalf is top-notch, comes with a ten-year warranty, and stands out among EVGA options. Not all EVGA units are equal—some are budget builds while others deliver exceptional performance. Choosing a lower-quality supply risks instability, poor overclock results, and potential hardware damage. Consider upgrading to Windows 10 for better support of DirectX12, especially if you plan to run games from 2016 onwards.
