You've got most components ready, so you're deciding between Windows 10 and Windows 11. Given your system specs (12700K, 3070) and mixed use—gaming, Photoshop, CAD/CNC—Windows 11 might offer better performance and newer features, though it requires a compatible chipset. Consider what matters most for your workflow before making the choice.

Thanks to the thread director, Windows 11 performs significantly better on Alder Lake processors featuring both P and E cores. Choose that version.

The 12700K will benefit from the updated scheduler in Windows 11, delivering the most stable performance. However, this doesn’t mean it won’t run smoothly on Windows 10. If you dislike the new interface or any of the changes in Windows 11, sticking with Windows 10 might be a better choice for you.

The interface doesn’t look too bad compared to what you expect. What other options are available besides a forced Microsoft link?

Initial ads appear, ensure your pihole filters them out.

These advertisements appear for apps available via the Microsoft Store, appearing as standard-installed programs. They seem to originate from Microsoft’s usual distribution channels, which might explain why PiHole can bypass blocking. The same listings show up in Windows 10 through live tiles, making them simpler to disable there. While registry adjustments can turn them off, it’s frustrating to have to make changes and worry about potential issues with future updates.

No advertisements appear in the Start menu for both Windows 10 and 11. Avoid spreading misinformation.

You might also refer to those as in-game advertisements or pop-ups.
