Hello. I'm looking for guidance on choosing RAM for my AMD Ryzen 9 7950X. These chips are very sensitive to RAM timings, and I'm having trouble finding reliable tests or guides on matching timings and speeds for 7th generation processors. My motherboard (ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-A GAMING WIFI) supports DDR5 memory up to 6400MT/s in overclock mode. I have several G.Skill kits available, all priced similarly in Germany. I'm planning to install two 2x16GB kits for a total of 64GB across four slots. The kits I have are: 1. G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 32GB DDR5-5600 CL28 2. G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 3. G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 32GB DDR5-6400 CL32. Initially, I thought comparing the speed boost and latency difference between the 5600MHz CL28 and 6400MHz CL32 would help. However, the results didn't clarify much—I saw similar speed gains but also higher latency. For a 14% faster option, the 6400MHz CL32 gave me a 14% slower latency. Considering my needs for a white PC and the fact that G.Skill doesn't offer white RAM with this support, I'm wondering if another kit might be a better fit. Would it be worth considering more expensive options?

This highlights a lack of focus. It raises questions about what you mean. Edit: AMD specifications page - https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-9-7950x That isn't ideal. Real-world RAM overclocks are much higher.

According to recent reports, raw speed is the key factor for DDR5. The 6000MHz frequency was highlighted as ideal, closely matching their 2000MHz Infinity Fabric on AM5.

AMD suggest DDR5-6000 for the maximum in compatibility and what the motherboard says it supports hasn't mattered in many years since the IMC has been on the CPU. You may be able to manually tweak the ram to get 6400 to boot but this isn't generally a plug and play situation. Frankly I see no reason to not just get a DDR5-6000 w/ EXPO kit and call it done. AMD sent those kits to reviewers when Zen4 launched and its been flawless in my system since October. As for running 4 DIMMs on this platform if you don't have to, that's universally known to be a poor decision. 2x32GB kits exist of DDR5-6000 but your need for white RAM might be a problem.

The DDR5-6400 XMP kit is designed to work seamlessly out of the box. Comparing it to the DDR5-6000, you should evaluate whether the performance boost from 6400 is worth the upgrade. Running 6400 might offer better speeds, but achieving similar results with DDR5-6000 is also possible.

If the system operates at all with XMP enabled, perhaps. It seems the benefit of upgrading RAM beyond what we already have reliably on this platform isn’t worth it without careful adjustments. That applies even with 2x DIMMs. It might be wise to look into memory options suited for this setup, which have been shared since October. You’ll notice 6200 can be managed with manual tweaks, but 6400 will likely require a high-quality chip and precise adjustments for stability. DDR5-6000 with EXPO works best.
