Intel options: consider your needs. For gaming and streaming, the i5-12600K offers better performance due to higher clock speeds and more cores. The i5-12400F is still solid but may lag slightly in demanding tasks. Choose based on your budget and usage priorities.

There seems to be no need to avoid AMD. An AM4 processor likely offers better value in this price range.

Sorry, I missed adding your currency which is AUD. It seems there are no suitable mobos available without exceeding your budget, and I don’t want to deal with extra costs or trouble updating the BIOS.

Generally, most stores will adjust the thickness of a board upon request before it leaves.

I get it, you don’t have to choose between Axxx chipsets if you’re not interested. There aren’t many affordable B650 mobos left, especially if you’re targeting the AM5 platform. If you’re on a budget, the 400F is a bit more affordable, but the 600k offers better performance. For gamers specifically, the difference might be minor since it depends on your GPU, though the 600k will likely last longer and run faster than the 400F.

I don't have the specific details of the CPUs you mentioned, but I can help you explore options that are similar in price or slightly more expensive. Let me know if you'd like suggestions based on common alternatives.

Your budget should cover the platform, board, and RAM. You might lean toward a 13400 or a 5600/5700, while AM4 boards tend to be more affordable.

I can help with some information if you're interested. I recently purchased a new motherboard at Newegg, specifically a Gigabyte B450M. It was around $95 USD, and I'm checking the current price. They also ship to Australia. For your CPU needs, a Ryzen 5 3600 would be a great budget option, as both models are 6-core, 12-thread CPUs.

Approximately $1200 to $1350 AUD, presently around $1,000 for most services.

you could put money into am5, but it seems like a tight race between the 600k and the r5 7600x heading toward am4. you might fit in a ryzen 7 or a 5800x if it's available locally. you could also try a 13th gen intel chip with an i5 13500—those parts are quite similar in benchmark scores for both single and multi-core tasks, though the tests aren't perfect. maybe it's smarter to pick a very affordable gpu on a 13th gen or 7th gen ryanz to get better features later when you can upgrade.
