Sit down boys, you're about to experience an intense story with a twist ending. I don’t like diving deep into game research before release because it can dampen the thrill. As a moderate fan of the Fallout series, I decided to grab Fallout 4 when word came out. After leaving my girlfriend’s house this morning, I headed to Walmart with $58 and some change. I bought the game, got home, installed the disk, and was immediately pumped. The installation started quickly—fast as a flash. When I tried to play, it was still installing. Eventually, it finished. But here’s the catch: the disk held 5.21GB, which is more than enough for one game, yet the download speed I have is only about 120kbps. That means the game would take days—possibly until Friday or Saturday—to finish. Plus, during installation my ping skyrocketed, making online play impossible. So here’s what I considered: 1) Endure and install every night for a week and accept the frustration. 2) Take it to McDonald’s for a quick fix. 3) Visit my college and use a Steam proxy since they block Steam, but I could get 70mbps there. My school (luckily) didn’t block Steam well. I noticed that logging in or starting a download on campus failed, but if you begin the download and log in from home, then bring it back to school without properly stopping it, it keeps downloading at your school’s internet speed—over 60mbps on Wi-Fi. It’s no surprise most of my Steam collection came from school.
