I’m considering downloading DayZ now. What initially discouraged me was performance issues, frequent hacks, and bugs. I hope they’ve addressed those problems. Should I choose a specific version? Also, if I opt for an Arma mod, I might not even enjoy playing Arma itself. There are options like Arma 2 & OA, Arma 3’s DayZ mod, and the standalone version available. I’m not sure if there are more choices. For me, visual quality isn’t a big priority, so I just want the best gameplay experience for DayZ. Which one should I pick?

It operates poorly at the moment, but we hope it improves once it leaves Alpha.

I’d pick Arma 2 combined with OA and the DayZ mod. DayZ SA feels quite dull and lacking, while the mod includes features like Epoch that bring a lot more content. Just remember to install DayZ Commander for a smoother experience.

Arma 2 DayZ is packed with hackers. The standalone version had a strong hacker presence the last time I played. I haven’t played the DayZ mod for Arma 3 before, but I’ve invested around 70 hours in Arma 3 and still feel like there’s much to explore. Standalone offers great potential, especially with recent additions of more weapons, making it a solid choice. If you want to focus on building bases and driving vehicles in DayZ, Arma 2 remains the top option.

Standalone, It's way better right now than it was a couple of months ago. Arma 3 Dayz mod is meh, but the mod is awesome. Imo standalone right now has more players and it's a very dynamic game, while the mod always stays the same. 3-4 months ago everyone used to go to balota, then elektro, North west, cherno, berenzino and now North east. That's why I prefer Dayz sa

I've noticed it actually performs better now (I can reach 60 FPS in cities instead of 15). It remains unstable and uninteresting. For solo play, a single zombie hit without protection is essentially a death sentence—just let it finish you off. Everyone fires immediately, even on PVE servers.

I realize my mistake. Therefore, the rest is problematic.

Some folks advise against playing DayZ, as it's developed by creators with questionable reputations. You might want to skip it if you're concerned about supporting such developers.

Stay away from Dayz standalone, I was enjoying it when I was able to tell myself it was bad because alpha but they announced a few months ago that they are completely redesigning the engine AGAIN so that put them back ANOTHER couple years and has slowed down a lot of core things that need to be fixed. As far as Arma 2 Dayz mod there are plenty of different versions and every server can have tons of custom stuff and it is still extremely populated so I would suggest this. Arma 3 Breaking point is actually really fun and will get better. There is also Arma 3 Epoch coming soon which is going to be amazing but both are going to be buggy for awhile longer and Arma 3 is way more expensive so up to you.
