Hello! I'm starting Rainbow Six Siege and trying to decide which version suits me best. There are the Starter Edition, Regular, Year 2 Gold Edition, and Complete Edition. I checked the Ubisoft article on the differences, but it’s a bit confusing. Here’s what I understand about the Starter Edition:

- It gives full access to the game for 15€ / £11.99.
- Unlocks up to 4 Operators right away.
- You need extra work to get the remaining 16 original Operators.
- Operators are unlocked after reaching a certain Renown level (12,500 vs. 500-2,000 in Standard).

What’s included?
- All game modes and maps.
- All operators and post-launch ones.
- Full progression without level caps.
- Same servers and matchmaking as the Regular Edition.

What’s missing?
Since it’s the full game, you have everything. But Operators take more grinding than in the Standard Edition.

How does the operator system differ between the Starter and Standard Editions?
In the Starter Edition, you get 2 easy Operators instantly (Rook, Sledge, Ash, Fuze, Mute, Smoke). You can spend 600 R6 Credits on more Operators or other content. The unlocking is slower for the remaining 16 original ones.

If I play the Free Weekend and unlock some Operators, will they stay unlocked?
Yes, but if you buy Starter, you’ll need to unlock them again.

Should I switch from Standard to Starter?
No, the operators you unlock in Standard won’t transfer. You’ll have to redo the grinding.

Why does Starter unlock 2 random Operators and give 600 credits?
They’re picked from the most basic ones at launch to ensure a solid start. The credits help you pick more Operators later.

Is there a level cap in Starter Edition?
No, there isn’t.

How can I unlock Operators faster in Starter?
- Complete daily/weekly challenges.
- Buy Renown Boosters.
- Purchase the R6 Credits pack for all 16 Operators.
- Use the £28.99/35€ pack for the full operator set.

Is the Season Pass compatible with Starter Edition?
Yes, it adds 8 new Post-Launch Operators for a 7-day exclusive.

How do Renown and R6 Credits work together?
Renown is earned from gameplay (Situations, hunts). You can use it to unlock Operators and gear. R6 Credits are extra currency for buying boosters or premium items.

If I buy Starter, can I still play after the sale period on Uplay/Steam?
Yes, you’ll have all Starter benefits.

Can I join parties with friends who don’t use Starter Edition?
All players share servers and matchmaking pools.

Will I keep my progress if I switch to Standard?
Yes, your progression and Operators carry over.

How easy is it to upgrade from Starter to Standard?
The quickest way is to buy the R6 Credits bundle (like 4920) to unlock all Operators instantly.

Where is Starter Edition available?
It’s digital only on Steam and Uplay, same as Standard.

Is there a console version planned?
No, it’s only for PC.

Can I join Rainbow Six Pro League with Starter?
Yes, you can enter weekly competitions.

If I play 5-7 hours a week, is getting new Operators worth it?
It depends. If you’re short on time, grinding might be tough. But if you enjoy the game, it’s doable. It’s practical for casual players.

Hope this helps! Let me know your thoughts.

Sure, I received it from a G2A member for around £16.

The starter cost is 25,000 for each new operator instead of 2,500 with the complete package. Skip the season pass until you play frequently—it’s mainly for cosmetic items and a small boost in reputation. You can purchase it again later if desired.

I’d take the basic version. It’s affordable and offers limited impact. I’m unsure which one you own, but if budget isn’t a priority, opt for the complete or second edition to maximize operators and special characters.

Don't grab the starter unless you're comfortable grinding intensely... to access Operators. Skip the Year 2 Gold Edition—it's just the Standard Edition plus a Season Pass for Year 2. Since Year 2 is closing soon, the best move is to purchase the Standard Edition. Add the Year 3 Season Pass later when it becomes available. You can slowly unlock all Operators, but once you get the hang of the game, you tend to focus on what matters most and leave others behind. I've been playing R6 on PC since mid-Year 1 Season 1. All Operators are unlocked so far, but I mostly rely on Attacking: Twitch — Sour bout life Hibana (Hi banana), Buck Thermite Thatcher (alternative to Twitch), Ash (occasionally), and Defending: Valkyrie Frost Rook Lesion Jager Castle (depends on map) — Mira (rarely).

It gives a solid overview, which is why I mentioned the starter version. It might be tough at first, but you still have decent choices and can enjoy the game. I think it’s wise to recruit your initial matches to grasp the mechanics before focusing on gadgets. Once you’ve got a feel for the basics, try operators that interest you. My first pick was Ashe—her grenade launcher is powerful from a distance. I also chose Rook because he provides protection for defenders. I never felt weaker with fewer options. Weekly and daily challenges really boost learning. It took me 2–4 weeks of less common play to unlock DLC Mira using real money, though the originals remain strong. Montagne offers solid shielding, and Doc can revive teammates and himself. Those are some excellent starter picks, and I can spend a lot of time praising the original ones. Ultimately, it’s best to experience things yourself.

I believed you couldn't choose operators in the starter edition. Only two unlocked ones appear randomly. #RecruitBestUnit
