I recently purchased a premium Z790 DDR5 motherboard at a discounted price, and now I need to decide on a CPU. Right now, the i7-12700K is available for $210, while the KF model costs around $200. On the other hand, the i5-13600KF is on sale for $250. I was also considering DDR5 6400 RAM for $110, though I think an i5-13th series would be more suitable. It’s a question of whether the additional $50 is worth it for gaming performance. For your needs at 1440p, which one should you choose?

The 13600kf is definitely right. Consider pairing it with an air cooler such as the PA120 or an AIO like the LT520.

No problem at all. Just let me know if you're considering the $50 upgrade and whether you need the 1440p resolution.

What GPU are you utilizing? And has any productivity been completed?

What are you planning to upgrade to? What budget do you have in mind for the GPU? If you're using a 4090, you might not want these CPUs. For a 4080 or lower, the 13600KF seems like a good option. You don't necessarily need Intel—AM5 could offer better value.

Not exactly a 4090 but maybe a 4070 or 4070 Ti. I purchased a Z790 motherboard and it's been a while, so I can't return it. It could be a bit until I upgrade, but for now I'm using a 2070. My priority is an i7 7700K and I wanted to upgrade, so I went with the Z790. So my choices are likely between the 12th and 14th generation. But honestly, I'm eyeing the i7 12th or i5 13600K as well.

I think the 13600kf is better because the 12700k might struggle in games due to its slower clock speed. The extra cores aren’t as important for gaming as they are for productivity, so a 13600k should definitely be there.

The 12700K offers better value, yet the 13600K delivers superior performance.
