Considering a transition from an old mini PC, AM4 or LGA1700 are worth it if you aim to upgrade your GPU and save some money. For gaming, these systems offer solid options. Here are three starter builds with GPUs: 5600, 7600x, and I5-12400. Updated September 26, 2023 by Deathcorner

For gaming, opt for the build with a stronger GPU. Typically, AM5 offers better flexibility since it supports future CPU upgrades, whereas AM4 limits you to the components you purchase now. Moving from a 6700XT to a 6800XT provides a significant boost in performance, making it a worthwhile investment.

It would be tough for gaming, but I could consider the upgrade potential of AM5. Are there any problems with the latest system?

When it launched there were some problems, but most issues have been resolved now. Make sure you install the latest BIOS; that way you're set for AM5 if you choose. If you go with the X3D chip, it's usually better to stick to 6000MT/s DRAM unless you're using a newer board with an updated BIOS. Higher speeds are possible but not very common yet.

You're discussing your current display settings and gaming preferences. At higher resolutions, you're thinking about lowering to a 5600 non-X, which aligns with opting for AM4 as a budget-friendly choice—200 euros for a CPU is sufficient for the 7600 non-X. You also consider replacing the 6800 XT with a 7800 XT or 4070 based on availability.

They function identically at a basic level, but you can significantly enhance the 6800XT's capabilities through software like MPT, allowing it to surpass the RX 6900 XT performance that isn't compatible with RDNA3 due to strict restrictions.

I acquired an old 27-inch 4K 60Hz display but plan to upgrade to a 3440 x 1440 high refresh monitor someday. My previous setup included a 6700K and a 1070 before selling it. I later purchased a 3060 laptop, sold it because it didn’t suit me, and now use a mini PC as a temporary solution. Edited September 24, 2023 by Deathcorner

I’d rather purchase now and upgrade to a new setup in about five to six years. I’m thinking about using an AM4 socket to access a better graphics card.

Improved power usage and a more advanced functionality package, potentially influencing aspects like FSR3’s capabilities or upcoming updates and driver compatibility.
