Choose the appropriate M.2 slot for your Gigabyte B450.
Hey everyone, I'm setting up my new budget PC and need to place the Samsung 970 EVO M.2 in the motherboard. The B450 model has two M.2 slots, as shown. Should I install it in slot one or slot two? Also, since it's a V-NAND M.2 PCI Express drive, which slot is more suitable?
Only the highest model supports PCIE 3.0 X2, whereas the top model uses the quicker X4 standard that your SSD also employs. Be aware that SATA3 0 and 1 will be disabled and won’t work. These are the ports located at the bottom right of the board—the one pointing upward, not on the side.
The top position allows full use of the 970 EVO's capacity. The PCIe x2 connection will cause a minor slowdown.
Hey there! Just a quick note about your setup. You mentioned trying to fit a 2TB SSD in the bottom slot but noticed the boot drive is on top. That could be causing issues since the power isn’t reaching it. Double-check the connection and make sure the SSD is properly seated. If it still doesn’t work, verify the motherboard compatibility and try a different slot. Let me know if you need more help! Thanks!
