I recently took my old desktop out of the box and cleaned it up. I realized it had better specifications than my current PC. Then I got the power cord and connected it to the machine. It started up in Windows 7. I thought it would be a good idea to try Linux. I opened a trusted website and found many Linux distributions. If you're an experienced user who knows what works best, let me know your thoughts.

No, I don’t need the specs. Let me know if there’s anything else you’d like to discuss!

The top choices for beginners are PopOS, Ubuntu, and Manjaro. Using Proton on these platforms is likely to make setup and getting started the simplest.

It makes sense that Mint could use a "my first Linux" badge—it really stands out. It's a great operating system, and any version of Ubuntu works well for everyday use. In fact, Mint is based on Ubuntu itself.

The simplest Linux distribution to set up is usually the one with the most user-friendly interface and minimal setup steps.

If that computer was using Windows 7, you're not in a terrible situation at all.

Generally, you can use them on almost any modern system. GNU/Linux tends to use fewer resources compared to Windows, making it suitable for most 64-bit setups. However, you might run into problems with drivers—certain Linux distros don’t support Realtek Ethernet adapters well, especially on some AMD boards.
