Choose RX6700 or hold off for model 7700
I own an RX6600 with 8GB RAM that used to handle a 2560x1080 display at 60Hz. That setup was more than enough, but the surge in power usage from my old monitors and speakers forced me to upgrade to a 165Hz 1440p model. The newer 6600 still runs most games fine, though some benefit from extra performance. If you're looking for better power handling, the 6700/XT might be worth considering now, or you could wait for the 7700 if you prefer a more stable future.
I’d prefer to wait and observe. The timing isn’t clear yet—likely next year. If you notice a 6700 on offer, consider it if you’re not fully satisfied with what you have now.
It seems the upgrade from 6700XT to 6600XT offers minimal gain, around +15% rasterization. Consider moving to a 6900XT now or wait for a 7700XT or higher.
The 6600XT and 6700XT perform similarly, so consider waiting or purchasing a 6800XT now to stay ahead until the RX8000 line arrives. If you want a noticeable performance boost right away, the 6800XT on the used market matches the speed of a 7700XT but is probably cheaper. I previously bought one for $500 during the mining downturn, making it a great deal. The 6800XT is roughly twice as fast as your 6600XT, offers double the frame buffer, and costs only about $150 more than a 6700XT on the used side. FSR 3.0 will function well with RDNA 2, so unless you require AV1, the main advantage of RDNA 3 is unlikely to justify the upgrade.
