Hey there, I'm working through this upgrade plan myself. Previously, I didn't really experiment much with RAM, just setting it up and letting it run. Now I'm aiming for a better setup. I'm targeting 4000mhz memory, and early info suggests Ryzen 5000 is ideal for that speed. The challenge is figuring out how to fit 32GB into my system. Checking the ASUS QVL list for current boards shows a cap of 16GB with 8GB modules. It seems limited, especially since no one seems to support 4DIMM at that speed anymore. Maybe I'm missing something, or perhaps these high-speed setups aren't being used much anymore. The QVL list might not be the only option. In short, I need a recommendation for 32GB 4000mhz RAM compatible with my Ryzen 5 5900X and a motherboard that supports it—preferably one of their newer models if possible. Thanks!
Don't stress too much about the QVL—it's just memory that Asus has validated themselves. Most RAM should work now, unlike with earlier Ryzen models. Where do you see 4000MHz being ideal? I haven’t read any reviews yet. I’m using 4x8GB (32GB) at 3200MHz C14 B Die Trident Z RGB with my 3800XT. I think I could achieve a better overclock if I used two 16GB modules instead, but I prefer having four sticks in this setup. If looks aren’t important, two sticks are simpler to overclock. You don’t have to buy RAM labeled for 4000MHz since decent RAM can still be boosted. The B Die tends to perform best at overclocking, followed closely by the Micron E Die. I own two 8GB Crucial Ballistix RGB modules rated for 3200MHz C16, but they can also be overclocked quite well—especially at 3600MHz C16, which worked smoothly without major problems. Most Crucial memory kits are built with Micron E dies, since they’re produced by Micron.
