CPU is an i5-4570, motherboard is MSI H81M-E33, GPU is MSI Gaming X RX 580, RAM is 16GB DDR3. Mostly I play World of Warcraft, which works okay on my system unless I do extra stuff while playing. Otherwise it’s not great. I haven’t played many other games often enough to warrant an upgrade. I’ve been putting off upgrading my setup for a while now. Since Rocket Lake came out, I’m considering buying now, but some people are suggesting wait for Alder Lake instead. The stock situation with Alder Lake could be tricky, so I’m weighing the pros and cons before deciding. I’m open to any advice you might have.
It depends on how much you can spend. For around 500 to 1350 USD, Intel chips like the i3-11000 and i5-11400 offer great value right now. AMD’s Alder Lake and the 5th generation processors could also provide more performance for less, but it might be better to hold off. If you’re okay waiting, consider that timing. Right now, finding a good GPU is already tough.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The mainboard seems to be the key factor I want to upgrade. It lacks enough fan headers, doesn’t provide enough room for PCIe slots, and missing M.2 ports are holding me back. If Alder Lake delivers strong performance then I’ll give it a chance.
