Hi everyone! I just acquired a Cisco 4948 10GE switch and am planning to connect it to my PC via a 10GbE link. Since I'm new to fiber optics, I'm looking for guidance on what equipment to purchase. My PC is roughly 15-16 feet away from the switch. Any advice would be super helpful!

The 4948 10GE doesn't require fiber, so you won't need extensive knowledge about it. A standard CAT 6 + cable in one of the 10G uplink ports will suffice. For a NIC, the Asus XG C100C is a solid option without breaking the bank. You can also find Intelk X520 cards at reasonable prices on eBay. EDIT: That said, it's true it works. For best results, opt for MMF SFP+ modules since they're in limited supply. Cisco SFP-10G-SR should also function. Other brands may offer compatible alternatives at lower costs.

Search for multimode fiber and short-range sfp+ on fs.com. Avoid purchasing first-party SFPs.

These components appear to be mismatched. The X2 modules are Cisco DS-X2-FC10G-LR with a different NIC, while the other items are SFP transceivers and cables. They likely won't work together directly.

Not everything fits. The X2-FC10G-LR works with other models, but the FC10G-LR units are long range, single mode optics. The cable and transceiver suit short range multi-mode setups. You’d need alternatives like the DS-X2-FC10G-SR listed here or the Cisco SFP module mentioned. One caution is whether an HP card functions on a non-HP server. Updated info confirms these NICs operate as intended, including with Solarflare adapters. A more affordable option exists too.

You've completed everything and updated the drivers with Ethernet, but the card still shows "no cable is plugged in."

Are the link lights activated? Does the switch display the transceiver in the CLI?

The transceiver appears in the terminal for your switch, yet no indicators are visible.

I understand this might seem odd but which drivers were added? https://support.solarflare.com/index.php...es&id=1946 v4.12.1.1025 Is the version you require? Also, consider using the CLI firmware update tool as well.
